Vedic tradition has its own unique Theology, Philosophy, Arts, Sciences and Literature Vedic Astrology is an integral part of this tradition. For thousands of years many sages maintained the tradition of Vedic Astrology on parallel track with the Vedas. Portions of these have been extracted at various times and put into the Jyotish Vedanga.
Bhartiya Jyotish Shastra as an optional subject in M.A. (Final year) started in the year 2000 with 19 students. This discipline emphasizes the teaching and research on themes like Siddhanta (Indian astronomy), Samhita (predicting important events related to countries such as War, Earthquakes, House and Construction related matters i.e. Vastushastra, and so on. In Hora branch the various aspects are Jataka Shastra, Muhurta, Swarg shastra, Prashna, Ankjyotish, Tajika Shastra and Samudrika Shastra.
The Department's aim is not only to bring out the best scholars of this field but also to produce the teachers for teaching in different Universities and Educational Institutions. There are so many (?) students who completed their M. Phil and Ph. D. in the above fields in the area.
